Saturday, Sept. 29 -- The UC Davis School of Law will break ground on a $30-million expansion and renovation project, the first in the school's 40-year history, at a 10 a.m. ceremony at King Hall.
The project will add 19,000 square feet of new space and renovate 25,000 square feet of existing space to alleviate overcrowding; expand student study and meeting spaces; add faculty and visitor offices and seminar and teaching spaces; consolidate the law library while adding a reading room and stack space; and consolidate student services. The project will also bring more air and light to the building and create a central courtyard.
The project will be funded with $17.9 million from voter-approved Proposition 1D funds, $3.9 million in campus funds and $8 million in private donations. Almost $5 million remains to be raised.
Construction is expected to be completed in late 2009. The event is free and open to the public.
