Saturday, Sept. 15 -- The UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic will mark its 25th anniversary with a conference on immigration issues from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in King Hall at the UC Davis School of Law.

Speakers will include U.S. Circuit Judge Harry Pregerson and staff attorney Daniel Torres of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco; Angela Junck, a staff attorney with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco; and immigration and naturalization attorneys Donald Freiberg of San Jose, Sara Kate Heilbrun of San Francisco, Lynn Miyamoto of Los Angeles, Scott Mossman of Oakland and Michael Schoenleber and Mary Waltermire of Sacramento. Panelists will also include UC Davis School of Law faculty Holly Cooper, Margaret Johns and Amagda Perez. Perez, a specialist in immigration and poverty law, is co-director and supervising attorney of the Immigration Law Clinic.

Panelists will address non-immigrant classification and challenges, ethical preparation of witnesses, immigration consequences of criminal convictions, effective representation in criminal court and immigration proceedings, and pro bono opportunities and resources in immigration and naturalization law.

Founded in 1981 by James Smith, an adjunct professor of law emeritus, the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic is staffed by second- and third-year law students who provide community education and free legal services to low-income immigrants facing deportation. During the last quarter century, the clinic has represented hundreds of people from around the world in deportation and asylum cases while giving students an opportunity to gain valuable lawyering experience.
