UC Davis researcher Bill Fleenor ferries Sacramento television reporter Leticia Ordaz of KCRA along the Port of Stockton's Deepwater Ship Channel on Monday. Media were invited to visit to watch as students and researchers from UC Davis, Stanford University and the U.S. Geological Survey measured dissolved oxygen, algae, nutrients, currents and other data to build a comprehensive model for improved management of the 10-mile channel. The ship channel has the worst water quality in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and poses a serious threat to migrating salmon. Fleenor is based in the Environmental Dynamic Laboratory, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
