Undergraduate Education announced two leadership changes coming at summer’s end:

  • Annaliese Franz, professor of chemistry, will transition out of her role as faculty director of the Undergraduate Research Center. “Franz has brought extraordinary energy and focus to the center, which facilitates research opportunities for UC Davis undergraduates,” Undergraduate Education declared in an article summarizing her accomplishments. “The center has grown in scope, influence and impact on campus and systemwide, expanding externally funded projects, philanthropic donations, and research support and opportunities for students.” An internal search for a new faculty director will launch this summer.
  • Dave Furlow, professor of neurobiology, physiology and behavior, will step down from his positions as associate dean, director of the University Honors Program and director of First Year Seminars. He has been “a quiet force” since taking on his leadership role in 2015, overseeing the development of the newly-restructured honors program, and doubling and diversifying first-year seminar offerings, according to an article posted to the UE website. “Furlow’s scientific background and simultaneous appreciation for the liberal arts led to innovative programming for both programs, creating true interdisciplinary approaches to solving difficult problems.” An internal search to bring faculty leadership to Undergraduate Education, the University Honors Program and First-Year Seminars will launch this summer.
