Statement on the Impact of the Global Kronos Ransomware Attack at UC Davis

UC Davis recently became aware of the global ransomware attack on Kronos, which resulted in the company taking all of its cloud services offline worldwide. Kronos is currently used as the timekeeping system for Dining Services for approximately 250 career staff and 1,000 student employees, and the unavailability of the service will prohibit these employees from submitting timecards using the Kronos system.

Other UC campuses have also been impacted, and the University of California Office of the President has reported the issue to authorities. In order to issue on-time paychecks to UC Davis employees, Dining Services plans to pay career staff full-time hours for the last pay period ending in mid-December and student employees based on the average work hours recorded on their last two paychecks. This will enable employees to continue to receive income for the affected pay period. System adjustments for over- and underpayment will be reconciled in the new year. Should the service outage extend into January, Dining Services is developing an alternate time reporting process to be implemented if needed.
