The new Veterinary Medicine Laboratory Facility surgery suite teems with activity Sunday as UC Davis students, staff and faculty members take part in Spay Day USA 2004 -- a coast-to-coast effort to reduce unwanted pet populations. More than 400 volunteers helped out for the campus's inaugural year in the program, spaying and neutering 295 animals. The effort wouldn't have been possible without the suite, which has 31 tables. Each animal was assigned a guardian, who stayed with the pet from start to finish. At right, veterinary medicine student Stephanie Harmon watches over Crystal before going into the prep room.
