The Cypress String Quartet is set to present three concerts and a lecture-demonstration this month at UC Davis, where the musicians are serving as artists-in-residence.

The first performance is planned as part of the music department's series of free Noon Concerts. At the noon event, the quartet is due to give a preview of an evening concert set for the following day. The program: Haydn's String Quartet in C Major, op. 76, No. 3 (Emperor); Tsontakis's Quartet No. 5, commissioned by the Cypress String Quartet; and Schubert's Cello Quintet. Susan Lamb Cook, a faculty affiliate in cello at UC Davis, is set to join the Cypress Strings for the quintet score at the evening concert.

The Noon Concert is scheduled for April 19 in 115 Music Building, and the evening concert is set to begin at 8 p.m. April 20 in the Studio Theatre at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

The quartet's lecture-demonstration, titled "The Business of Being a String Quartet," is set to begin at 12:05 p.m. April 26 in 115 Music Building. This program is free and open to the public.

This particular string quartet began in San Francisco in 1996.

An evening concert April 28 is planned as the finale of the quartet's residency. The program lists Mozart's Dissonant String Quartet in C Major, K. 465; Bloch's Landscapes (five short pieces recently uncovered by music historians) and In the Mountains; and Dvorák's String Quartet in G Major, op. 106. The concert is set to begin at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.
