Police Investigate 3 Burglaries on West Side of Campus

UC Davis police are investigating two burglaries at UC Davis West Village and The Green at West Village, and another at the Hopkins Services Complex, also west of Highway 113. No suspects had been identified.

The Police Department issued three crime alerts Tuesday (Oct. 11) regarding the incidents. The alerts, also known as Clery notices, required by the federal Clery Act of 1990, are intended to make the campus community aware of serious crimes on campus.

  • RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY — Someone stole a wallet, iPad, shoes and food from a UC Davis West Village apartment after entering through an unlocked door, police said. The theft occurred between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 8) — during which time a resident was asleep in their room — but was not reported until Monday (Oct. 10).
  • MAILROOM BREAK-IN — Two unidentified men pried open a door, rifled through packages and stole various items at about 3:30 a.m. Monday at The Green, a student housing complex. Based on surveillance video, police described the burglars as white but could not add much else for physical appearance, considering they hid their faces. Here’s what the men were wearing: one had on a dark ballcap, white-black flannel over a black hoodie, black shorts, black socks with white-black checkered shoes, and a blue and black backpack; and the other wore a light gray hoodie with an emblem on the front over an orange T-shirt, dark gray shorts, gray Adidas shoes with red laces and a black backpack.
  • AUTO BURGLARY AND THEFT — Early Tuesday, someone entered the fenced lot at the services complex, 615 Hopkins Road, and forcibly entered multiple UC Davis vehicles, stealing tools and service equipment. They hot-wired one of the vehicles but left it at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact campus police by phone,  530-752-1727, or online.

Police advised: To reduce the risk of theft, ensure doors and windows are securely locked. Do not leave valuable items such as phones and laptops unattended or in cars. Be aware of your surroundings, and report suspicious person and occurrences. More safety tips are available online.
