Just in time for the first day of fall quarter, the Memorial Union reopened this morning (Sept. 28), and the Coffee House will follow on Wednesday (Sept. 30) — both with modifications to account for the pandemic.
BOOKS AND BUSES
The MU requires everyone to present an “approved” Daily Symptom Survey before entering, wear face coverings and maintain physical distancing (at least 6 feet) to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The same requirements will apply at the CoHo, which is inside the MU.

Memorial Union
Open to students, faculty and staff only, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday. Lounge space has been reconfigured to individual, physically distanced study tables/spots for students only. Spaces are available by same-day reservations at the Information Desk. Reservations are for two hours, and spaces are cleaned after each reservation. No food or drink (water in closed containers OK).
What else is open in the MU? The Market, Campus Store and Amazon, Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center and The Pantry.
The Veterans Service Center is open by appointment only. The Associated Students of UC Davis, or ASUCD, is conducting business online or by in-person appointment. The Center for Student Involvement is conducting business online only. KDVS Is presenting live shows, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from Lower Freeborn.
The MU Games Area and Gunrock Gaming remain closed.
Coffee House
This legendary campus eatery will offer takeout and on-campus delivery only. All stations except Cooks and Croutons will be open with minor menu adjustments.
Hours Monday-Friday through Dec. 11 (closed weekends and Thursday-Friday, Nov. 26-27, closed for Thanksgiving):
- Swirlz Bakery — 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
- TxMx Grill — 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Fickle Pickle Deli — 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Mandalay Express (sushi and pho) — 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Ciao (pizza only) — 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
“Folks will be able to enter the space to order, but there won’t be any indoor seating,” said Darin Schluep, food service director for the ASUCD. “The layout of the space and queuing has been reconfigured to allow for distancing.”
A limited amount of patio seating will be available. For on-campus delivery orders, use the GrubHub campus dining app.
Looking to the future, Schluep said he and his staff are hoping to offer “Grab ’n’ Go Dinners for 2,” featuring popular CoHo dishes, that can be ordered a day in advance, picked up in the afternoon, then heated and served at home. He’s aiming to launch that concept in October.
Schluep said about 90 student employees will be working at the CoHo.
The CoHo South Café in the Student Community Center and BioBrew in Green Hall, the former Life Sciences Building, will remain closed.
