Video Added: UC Davis LIVE on Mental Health in the Pandemic

April 22, 11 a.m. — The pandemic has taken a toll on everyone’s emotional well-being. Some of the most serious effects have been on people who had previous mental illness or substance abuse issues.

In this week’s UC Davis LIVE, two mental health experts will discuss how the pandemic has affected their adult and younger patients this past year. What can we do as family members, communities and society to help with these problems?

  • Lorin Scher is director of emergency psychiatric services at UC Davis Medical Center. He treats patients suffering from medical and surgical illnesses in inpatient and outpatient settings and leads the emergency psychiatry team. His interests are in the integration of mental health into the primary care setting and using population health models to improve screening and collaborative treatment approaches.
  • Paula Wadell is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who provides psychiatric care for children and young adults. She is the associate program director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and the medical director for the UC Davis Early Psychosis Programs. Her interests include preventive care, mental health policy and education.

The conversation, hosted by Soterios Johnson, will be streamed live on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22.

Questions can be submitted via Facebook and Twitter either in advance or during the show.
