Feb. 19, Thursday -- The role of national courts in interpreting international conventions, including one addressing parental child abduction, will be the focus of a public lecture by Linda Silberman of the New York University School of Law. A specialist in domestic and international family law, the professor will present "Interpreting the Hague Abduction Convention: In Search of a Global Jurisprudence." Silberman, whose scholarship includes international and comparative aspects of family law, in particular international child abduction, is co-reporter for the American Law Institute's proposal for federal legislation to govern enforcement and recognition of foreign country judgments. Silberman's lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in the Moot Courtroom at King Hall. The School of Law's annual Brigitte M. Bodenheimer lecture on family law was established in memory of a UC Davis professor who helped draft a child-custody act adopted nationwide and the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
