Nov. 4, Wednesday -- UC Davis History Professor Clarence Walker will discuss his new book, “The Preacher and the Politician, Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama and Race in America,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Bookstore Lounge of Memorial Union on the UC Davis campus.
While President Obama’s election has persuaded many to conclude that America has entered a post-racial age, “The Preacher and the Politician” argues otherwise, noting that Obama’s candidacy was nearly derailed by his relationship with Wright, his outspoken former pastor.
Walker wrote the book with co-author Gregory Smithers, a lecturer in American History at King’s College, University of Aberdeen, Scotland. To schedule an interview, contact Walker at (530) 752-0779 or cewalker@ucdavis.edu. For information about the event, contact Paul Takushi at (530) 752-9072 or pmtakushi@ucdavis.edu
