Oct. 22, Monday -- Nabil Fahmy, ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United States, will give a talk from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wyatt Pavilion on the UC Davis campus. Fahmy's talk is titled, "Challenges and Opportunities in the Creation of Arab-Israeli Peace and Dealing With Nuclear Non-Proliferation Issues: An Egyptian Perspective." It is free and open to the public.

Fahmy is a career diplomat who has played an active role in efforts to bring peace to the Middle East and in international and regional disarmament affairs. He has also served as Egypt's ambassador to Japan, as a member of the Egyptian Missions to the United Nations in Geneva and New York, and in numerous other posts in the Egyptian government.

Fahmy's talk is co-sponsored by the UC Davis Institute of Governmental Affairs, the UC Davis International Relations Program and the UC Davis Middle East/South Asian Program, together with the University of California's Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation.
