Eric Kvigne and Jim Patterson, two familiar faces in Safety Services, took up their posts as permanent appointees this month after holding the jobs on an interim basis.
Kvigne has been named associate vice chancellor after a nationwide search. He had been serving in the post since last June.
He is responsible for the leadership of campuswide safety programs that include environmental matters (air, wastewater, storm water and hazardous waste), life and fire safety, emergency management and business continuity, risk management, occupational health and workers compensation, and regulatory compliance in five fields. Safety Services has a staff of about 120 people.
Kvigne joined UC Davis in November 2010 as risk manager after leading risk services operations in the private sector.
Patterson had served as the interim fire marshal since December 2016. He leads a staff of four in Fire Prevention, which provides the Davis campus and remote operations with fire prevention services related to code enforcement and the protection of life and property.
Patterson, who previously worked in fire protection in the Air Force, joined UC Davis in October 2007 and had been assistant fire marshal since 2012.
