Runners may not have the same opportunities for in-person events this year, but they can still compete against others and themselves at an upcoming 5K organized by LeShelle May and Gunrock.
The Gunrock’s Gallop Virtual 5K asks participants to travel 5 kilometers by any means — including running, bicycling, swimming and walking — anytime on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The event is open to all, and registration fees benefit The Pantry, a unit of the Associated Students of UC Davis. Register by Dec. 1 and you’ll receive a shirt, race bib and medal.

UC Davis shares its coffee and COVID-19 expertise
How can coffee shops and other small retail stores reopen and stay safe from COVID-19? William Ristenpart, a professor of chemical engineering and director of the UC Davis Coffee Center, produced a nearly two-hour video sharing UC Davis’ expertise on the subject.
Daily Coffee News called it a must-watch video.
Ristenpart also held a question-and-answer session on the topic — a replay of that event is available online by registering here.
Twitter: New face coverings for firefighters
Fire Chief Nathan Trauernicht: We’re proud to have supported the R&D process for DFNDs new FR neck shroud.
