Oct. 22, Thursday -- Award-winning author and educator Andrew Delbanco will open this year’s Public Intellectuals Forum with a talk to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Bistro 33, 226 F St., in downtown Davis.
Delbanco, Levi Professor in the Humanities and director of American studies at Columbia University, is a leading national commentator on the values and politics of higher education. In his talk entitled “Enough Already: Why Are the Humanities Always in Crisis?” he is expected to engage hard questions about the economic crisis facing many universities and what it may mean for humanities programs.
The forum will be moderated by Eric Rauchway, UC Davis history professor, and director of the Center for History, Society and Culture; and Carolyn de la Peña, professor of American studies and director of the UC Davis Humanities Institute. A reception will follow at 7:30 p.m. The forum is free and open to the public.
