Feb. 22, Wednesday -- Chol Soo Lee, wrongly convicted of murder, will be the keynote speaker at a UC Davis symposium on his legal case. The Korean immigrant was involved in the fatal stabbing of an inmate while serving a life sentence for murder and was sentenced to death. After the Sacramento Union published a series of articles questioning the case against him, Chol Soo Lee became the center of a pan-Asian movement that successfully mobilized to attain "procedural justice" for him and, ultimately, his freedom in the early 1980s. Featured panelists will be K.W. Lee, the investigative reporter who first exposed the case and later donated his papers to the UC Davis University Library; and Dr. Luke Kim, Grace Kim and Grant Din of the Free Chol Soo Lee Defense Committee. The public event, presented by the UC Davis Asian American Studies Program, will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the UC Davis University Club. Admission is free.
