Welcome back, the campus has been waiting for you — staff, faculty and students who have been working or teaching or studying remotely since the quarter began Jan. 3.

As a pandemic precaution, during the surge of the omicron variant across the nation, the administration had planned to begin the quarter with one week of remote activity, then extended it to four weeks, through this Friday (Jan. 28).
Chancellor Gary S. May reiterated in his “Checking In With Chancellor May” letter Monday (Jan. 24) that the Davis campus would revert to in-person instruction and work starting Monday (Jan. 31).
For fully vaccinated students in the residence halls, the campus implemented an every-seven-day testing requirement Jan. 10, due to the density of population in the halls — and that requirement remains in place. And, come Jan. 31, fully vaccinated students in the residence halls must test every four days if they have not received their booster shots.
The testing requirements for all other students, faculty and staff remain unchanged: Every 14 days if you have received your first vaccine series and every four days if you are unvaccinated (with an approved exception).
A negative COVID-19 test through the campus testing program is required before accessing campus facilities for the first time this quarter. “If you are already here, please get tested this week to help avert long lines at the ARC next week,” Chancellor May said in his letter. The campus testing program is also offered at UC Davis Health in Sacramento and through Healthy Davis Together in Davis, Woodland and West Sacramento.
See Campus Ready for more information, including testing locations and hours.
Positive test?
Employees and students who receive a positive COVID-19 test result from off-campus testing are required to report their diagnosis to UC Davis. Find out how to report COVID-19 if you test positive. Doing so exempts you from testing for 90 days.
Do not re-report a positive test received through the campus testing program. The campus will be notified automatically; you will then receive — via Health-e-Messaging — instructions for isolation, testing and notifying supervisors/instructors. Learn more on the Campus Ready website.
Booster shots
Besides the initial series of COVID-19 vaccine, UC is also requiring booster shots — and most of us us have until Jan. 31 to ensure our booster information is in the Health-e-Messaging system. In many cases, our information will be loaded automatically, if we previously assented to allow the university to access our records in the state’s immunization database. Otherwise, you will need to upload your information (see instructions here). Also note: If you are not eligible for a booster shot until after Jan. 31, you will have 14 days from your date of eligibility to get your shot and upload the information into Health-e-Messaging.
See Campus Ready for more information.

Food and coffee
Dining Services has been operating most of its facilities this month — and has two more big openings in the works: Gunrock restaurant (which is getting an Aggie Athletics-themed makeover and is scheduled to open for lunch Wednesday, Feb. 2), and California Coffee outside California Hall (with a hoped-for opening in mid-February).
Already open: Silo Market; Latitude Restaurant and Market; Spokes Grill (Silo); Peet’s Coffee at the Silo, King Hall and Activities and Recreation Center; Scrubs Café (Health Sciences District); Sage Street Market Café (UC Davis West Village); and the Segundo, Tercero and Cuarto dining commons and markets. See hours here.
The Coffee House and CoHo South Café have kept their doors closed during remote work and instruction, and plan to reopen Monday at the same service levels as before winter break. Coffeehouse — Swirlz Bakery, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and TxMx Grill, Fickle Pickle Deli and Mandalay Express (Ikoma Sushi and Pho), 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Thursday. CoHo South Café — 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Unitrans
The campus-city bus system, after operating on break service most of the month, announced a new operational plan starting Monday — restoring most service that operated during fall quarter, with some changes.
Check the Unitrans website for the most up-to-date schedules: Click on “Routes” at the top of the screen and select your route. Then, at the top of the schedule, look for “Term” and choose “Winter Quarter (In-Person Classes Only).” Note that service may be reduced without notice due to a persistent driver shortage.
Changes effective Jan. 31:
- New V Express (V-EX) and V Limited (V-LT) launches on weekdays from 6:55 a.m. to 8:10 p.m. V-EX will serve the Silo Terminal and only one West Village bus stop, at 2080 Tilia Street/The Green. V-LT will serve the Silo Terminal and all other bus stops in West Village at UC Davis. More information on the pilot program is available here.
- 15-minute morning V Line service will not operate due to the driver shortage.
Unitrans’ weekday frequency:
- 30 minutes — A (operated by Yolobus), B, C, D, G, J, K, M, P, Q, V-EX, V-LT and W lines.
- 60 minutes — E, F, L (operated by Yolobus) and Z lines.
