- Take a stroll through downtown, admire local art, and get to know local artists during Davis’ monthly ArtAbout. An average of 30 local businesses host art, and some even offer complimentary beverages and snacks for visitors to enjoy while perusing the works. UC Davis colloquium explores tea and wine next week
A public event worth considering is the fifth annual global tea colloquium at UC Davis. The Global Tea Initiative for the Study of Tea Culture and Science is holding its colloquium next Thursday and Friday, Jan.16-17, at the UC Davis Conference Center. This year’s event, “The Great Debate: Discussion on Tea and Wine,” is co-organized with the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science (RMI).
A part of the College of Letters and Science, the Global Tea Initiative focuses on both the culture and the science of tea from its origins in Asia and spreading to almost every continent on the planet. Unique in the world, the GTI fosters research and collaboration across the sciences, humanities and social sciences campus wide to explore the wide-ranging impact of tea on ceramics, gender roles, health practices and more all over the world.

— Appreciation and Adaptation: Homage to Global Textiles, UC Davis Design Museum, Cruess Hall, Room 124, opens Friday Jan. 23, running through April 18, free. The exhibition, curated by Paul J. Smith, highlights “traditional textiles from Africa, Asia and South America” as well as “works by UC Davis students…[that are] highlighting the continuing relevance of traditional cultures and how they drive design thinking in new directions.” More information on the exhibit, along with museum hours, here
