  • UC Davis Cinema and Digital Media professor Bob Ostertag pays homage to the late LGBTQ+ activist Hank Wilson in an original movie Thanks to Hank.

5th Annual Colloquium Global Tea Initiative, Thursday, Jan. 16 — Friday, Jan. 17, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., free

  • The 5th Annual Colloquium of the Global Tea Initiative and the Robert Mondavi Institute for Food and Wine Sciences brings you “The Great Debate: Discussions on Tea and Wine”. The event will include a special art exhibition, an internship and careers event, and an industry panel on new trends.

Friday, Rosen in conversation; Saturday, 'Beatles'

Professor of Art and Art History Annabeth Rosen in conversation with Michelle Millar Fisher of the Museum of Contemporary Art Boston at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco on Friday, Jan. 17 at 12:30 p.m.. This event is held on the last weekend of Rosen’s exhibition there. More information here.

  • The Sacramento Preparatory Music Academy will perform the entirety of The Beatles’ White Album. The show will benefit music education for Sacramento area youth.

Second Bite: the Wisdom of the Apple, 1930 5th St., Davis, every Thursday through April 30, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., free

  • The immersive art installation, Second Bite: the Wisdom of the Apple, was created by Adele Louise Shaw and Larry Dieterich. The installation is made from nearly 100 Apple computers and is “a clear celebration of women, with representations from various cultures and throughout all stages of life…” Reservations, via purchase of free tickets, are encouraged. Private showings can also be scheduled.

Appreciation and Adaptation: Homage to Global Textiles,” UC Davis Design Museum, Cruess Hall, Room 124, Friday, Jan. 23 through April 18, free

  • An exhibition on world textiles opens late January. The exhibition, curated by Paul J. Smith, highlights “traditional textiles from Africa, Asia and South America” as well a works by UC Davis students highlighting the continuing relevance of traditional cultures and how they drive design thinking in new directions.

  • The Winter Season Celebration marks the opening of two new exhibitions at the Manetti Shrem (Stephen Kaltenbach: The Beginning and The End and Gesture: The Human Figure After Abstraction) as well as the installation of outdoor sculptures by Manuel Neri.

Granville Redmond: The Eloquent Palette, Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, Sunday, Jan. 26 through Sunday, May 17

  • An exhibition of work by painter Granville Redmond will be on display at the Crocker Museum through early May. Redmond’s work depicts the natural beauty of the California landscape, primarily in oils.

Taproot New Music Festival, UC Davis, Tuesday, Jan. 28 through Sunday, Feb. 2

  • The biennial Taproot New Music Festival will feature Quince Ensemble, Spektral Quartet, and Empyrean Ensemble. The festival is presented by the UC Davis Department of Music and the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
