While Coronavirus prevention has caused many arts venues to close, art museums and galleries and some musical events are still going on for now. (This blog will be updated regularly.)
And below: tips and information for the arts community from Davis Arts Alliance.
Some music at UC Davis goes on, but performances at Mondavi, for example, are canceled. So are upcoming musical performances, for that matter, at Sacramento's Golden One Arena (sports events and entertainment happen at the arena, and all are canceled or postponed for now through March 31.) To help navigate this, we have summarized arts openings and closures here. Always check with the event sponsor of venue before going, as conditions are changing rapidly.
Much of the music goes on
The music goes on at UC Davis with concerts by the concert, jazz and vocal groups through Friday. For those with health concerns you don't have to miss the music — all will be live streamed here. Details and how to get tickets to some of those events Friday are here.
Not all music is still happening in the region, and this KQED story quotes a UC Davis faculty member about the financial strain these cancellations will put on musicians. “Bruce Chrisp, principal trombonist with eight orchestras, and a UC Davis faculty member, said the concert cancellations he learned of just this past week alone will cost him an anticipated $7,400.”
The Mondavi Center at UC Davis, as well as the region’s Harris Center in Folsom are both canceling their events through the rest of March.
Museums and Galleries
The Crocker, Verge and Manetti Shrem remain open. SFMOMA announced Friday morning that it is closing through March 28. The de Young and Legion of Honor will close to the public from March 14 through Monday, March 30, it was announced.
Check all venues before going, but most museums and galleries in the region remain open for normal hours. TANA in Woodland canceled its Friday night art opening and lecture, and will reschedule at a later date.
And if you don’t feel browsing inside a venue, you might check out the public art at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, which extends outside.
Also, the Art Studio weekend sessions have been canceled through the rest of this month, as well as the March 26 Artist Salon with Elizabeth Corkery.
