Fashion show returns in person

Vibrant fashion created by design students returns to the UC Davis campus on Picnic Day when the Fashion and Design Society, or FADS, takes its annual fashion show outdoors. “Prism,” this year’s show, will be staged at the new Cruess Hall Makerspace Courtyard on April 23 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The show will feature fashion created and executed by 11 Department of Design undergraduate students in the Signature Collections course.

“This year we celebrate our return to a live event, our first since 2019,” said Gozde Goncu-Berk, assistant professor of design. “This year’s collections will display a wide range of concepts — from sustainability, minimalism, craftsmanship to cultural diversity — merged into aesthetic qualities of more than 30 outfits.”

Ingrid Yeung, president of FADS, said she is pleased to return to an in-person event.

“We wanted to showcase the new Department of Design spaces and move the event outdoors to be a visible part of Picnic Day,” said Yeung.

In addition to the fashion show, the audience will be invited inside the new Cruess Hall Makerspace to view an exhibition highlighting research, renderings and creation of each collection.

A limited number of discounted tickets at $10 are on sale through April 16. Thereafter tickets are $12 for general admission. The show typically sells out quickly.

Tickets may be purchased in person at the UC Davis Ticket Office, located on the north side of Aggie Stadium, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; by phone 530-752-2471 during the same hours; or online at design.ucdavis.edu.

The Cruess Hall exhibition will be open to all Picnic Day participants at 2 p.m. after the second show. A show video will be available later in the day on the FADS website.

The Department of Design is part of the UC Davis College of Letters and Science.
