Video Added: UC Davis LIVE on COVID-19 Outreach to Farmers and Farmworkers

May 6, 11 a.m. — Agricultural workers have been essential employees throughout the pandemic, working to keep food on our tables. Farmworkers are also vulnerable to COVID-19 due to lack of access to resources and health care. Since March last year, the UC Davis Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety has been providing training and resources for farmers and farmworkers about COVID-19 precautions and safety. Join us this Thursday to hear from some of the people involved in that effort.

  • Teresa Andrews is an education and outreach specialist with the Western Center for Agricultural Health and Safety at UC Davis. She is lead trainer for the COVID-19 outreach program. Andrews has extensive experience working with cultural minorities, including developing educational materials and conducting training, and has forged collaborative links with Hispanic farmworker groups, growers, farm labor contractors, community organizations, employers and insurance personnel.
  • Hernan Hernandez is executive director of the California Farmworkers Foundation, whose mission is to serve and support California farmworkers by providing programs and services to better their quality of life. The foundation has partnered with agricultural organizations and health care providers to provide social and public health programs for farmworkers.
  • Sairat Martinez is executive director of Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño (CBDIO). The center works to foster and strengthen the civic participation, economic, social and cultural development of indigenous migrant communities.

The conversation, hosted by Soterios Johnson, will be streamed live on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6.

Questions can be submitted via Facebook and Twitter either in advance or during the show.
